June 2018 Summer is here and I find it hard to get into my studio to do art when it is gloriously sunny outside but having said that I need to create to keep myself sane as well as the fact it is my income so I continue to do my passion and that is painting. The "Dreaming of Ireland" Series continues but I need a break at the moment and so have decided to start a new series depicting the mythology stories of Ireland. I'm starting with the story of Finn and Sadv. Finn as his name means was fair haired and handsome, he would often go hunting game with his wolf hound. On one occasion Finn's dogs chased a deer into some old enchanted woods, he followed and soon found it in an opening, Finn approached the deer and at once it transformed into a beautiful woman, her name was Sadv, the Deer Goddess. Sadv had originally been trapped in this deer form by a dark magician of the old age but the spell was broken in the presence of her true love, Finn. I don't want to paint this literally but rather just as a gesture. An image that will get your imagination going. I hope to portray a mysticism in this work. A nostalgia of storytelling you might have grown up with or maybe just a connection to the atmosphere of the beautiful Irish landscape. I find these stories fascinating and even as a Christian can relate to them. I think most men would love to go hunting and discover a deer that transforms into a beautiful women of pleasure. It conjures up the old temptations that even King David was tempted with, i.e The pleasures of life, the lust of the flesh, the desire for a beautiful woman, the desire to be loved, hunting for your true love or even to find a woman of beauty. In a way Finn depicts Jesus, the Prince of Peace who is the only one who can break spells over peoples lives and bring true beauty to a fallen world. Here are two images of my art in progress.
